The duvet story begins a few centuries ago with down comforters in Europe and silk comforters in Asia. Both comforters required a significant amount of time to make which gave them value. Also both types are excellent insulators but neither one was happy being washed in the local stream nor are they happy in a modern washer.
The value of the comforter along with the fact that it is difficult to clean lead to the "invention" of the duvet cover. Similar to the concept of a pillowcase the duvet cover protected the down or silk comforter from body oils and all the other elements that might soil it.

Thread count and skin: As we’ve mentioned already if you have sensitive skin the thread count can help a lot. But there’s another factor that you should consider. The composition of the duvet will also depend on the yarn. The finer the yarn the smoother the feel but they can be more expensive as well. The finer the yarn the more beautiful and colorful the design can be made to look; perfect for high end bedrooms.
Fabri- Cotton is widely used in the making of double duvet covers. It’s durable washable and most of all comfortable! Of course there are many other materials that are utilized such as silk flannel micro fiber and sateen to name a few. While fabric is a matter of personal taste as well as budget and bedding needs keep in mind that the higher the thread count the better the overall durability quality and longevity you’ll receive from your purchase.
A duvet is a soft bedding bag filled with bird feathers or down soft cotton silk wool or a synthetic substance like polyester or foam that is protected with an outer covering. Since it is a complete bedding unit by itself it can do away the need for having a mattress or bed bed sheets or blankets. Duvets originated in northern rural Europe where winters required thermal insulation; duvets fulfilled that need especially for small children.
If you have sensitive skins choose the duvet with a finer finish. The thread count is especially important. It can make the difference between comfort and discomfort. A thread count of 300 is the comfortable enough but beyond that little else matters. It’s similar to applying lotion on your skin. One application is enough. If you add a second or third application you’re wasting the lotion.
Materials are key: Do you want duvet covers made of cotton or silk? You have to decide on your own. The kinds of cloths are a users’ personal choice. Or do you want one made of wool instead? It’s your call really. If you need warmer cloth then you may opt for wool.
