A growing share of the money spent on elections today comes from outside groups — those not officially connected to a candidate or party. FollowNCMoney is the only website dedicated to tracking the influence of outside spending groups on state-level politics in North Carolina.
FollowNCMoney is a project of the Institute for Southern Studies, a nonprofit media and research center based in Durham, NC and publisher of the online magazine Facing South.
Founded in 1970 by civil rights veterans, the Institute is the winner of dozens of awards for its in-depth public interest reporting, including two George Polk Awards, a National Magazine Award for Public Interest Reporting, and awards from Investigative Reporters and Editors, National Press Club, Society of Professional Journalists and White House Correspondents' Association.
