New outside PAC enters the fray
Supporters of North Carolinas Skilled Nursing Facilities, a new independent expenditure PAC, recently filed reports documenting close to $53,000 in spending on behalf of six Republican state legislators. The PAC sent out mailers to voters endorsing these candidates, with Tamara Barringer of Senate District 17 receiving the most support, at $15,517.
The PAC was established on September 23, 2014 and is affiliated with the NC Health Care Facilities Association, which shares the same Raleigh address. On the PAC's board are John A. McNeill, Jr., John P. Barber, Samuel M. Marsh, and Robert E. Gilliam, the treasurer.
Donations to the PAC came from two in-state senior care organizations and three out-of-state companies, including Sava Senior Care of Houston, TX, which has facilities in North Carolina and gave the largest donation of $20,000.
All four members of the PAC's board work in the healthcare industry, and three come from companies that gave to the PAC. Marsh is vice president and CFO of the Autum Corporation (Rocky Mount, NC), which gave $15,040 to the PAC. Barber, from Spartanburg, SC, is the Chief Financial Officer of White Oak Management, also based in Spartanburg, which gave $10,000 to the PAC. Gilliam is the president of Century Care Management, which chipped in $8,000.
Barber is also on the board of the affiliated NC Health Care Facilities Association, as well as Kevin Cox of the Autumn Corporation.
